Frequently asked questions.

What do we do in a mentor session?

We do whatever you want!

What’s great about private mentoring is that we aren’t forced to work within the parameters of a specific curriculum and we can meet as frequently or infrequently as makes sense for you.

Commonly my students are interested in learning more about sound design, synthesis, and sound recreations, as well as mixing, arrangement, songwriting, vocal processing, and mastering.

I encourage students to send me project files they’re working on before our session so that I can more easily and effectively show them examples of the techniques we’re covering.

If you have any questions about mentoring feel free to shoot me a message via the contact page.

Why should I work with you instead of someone who seems cooler?

Damn okay wild way to say that tbh, but I understand.

I’ve taught hundreds of students over the last several years and made it a priority to find ways to help students meet their personal production goals quickly. In my mind one of the main benefits of Icon Collective was that it equipped students with what would normally be ~5 years worth of improvement and compress that into just 1 year. During my time there I got a good sense of which methods of teaching are most effective and which ones ended up connecting with students less.

What software do you use?

I work in Ableton but can also work with you in Logic. Also happy to help you with Rekordbox.

Do I already need to know some basic production to work with you?

No, I’ll probably seem informed as hell though because everything I’d show you would be new information, which frankly sounds very validating.

I think I may be experienced to the point where I don’t need mentoring…

😧

I’m kinda of the opinion that everyone can benefit from some sort of structured learning in what they’re passionate about (I love finding new folks to learn from). Even if it’s not me, there are definitely people you can benefit from sitting down with, watching how they do things, and asking questions.
